Founding Member of Firm Named United States Magistrate Judge For the Southern District of West Virginia

Cheryl Eifert
Judge Joseph Goodwin, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, announced that Cheryl Eifert, one of the founding members/partners of the firm, has been chosen as the new U.S. Magistrate Judge in Huntington. Cheryl was chosen for the position by the federal judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia with the help of a seven-person merit selection panel. Cheryl will replace U.S. Magistrate Judge Maurice G. Taylor, Jr., who retired in April, 2010 after serving in the position since 1971. She will serve an initial eight-year term.
Ms. Eifert received bachelor’s degrees in speech communication and English from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1980 and her juris doctorate from Ohio State University College of Law in 1983. Following law school, she joined the Huntington law firm of Jenkins, Fenstertmaker, Krieger, Kayes & Farrell, where she became the firm’s first female partner. In 1993, she participated in the creation of the firm of Offutt, Eifert, Fisher & Duffield. She became Associate General Counsel of Charleston Area Medical Center in 1998 and returned to the firm in 2006.
